Speech by the Honourable Prime Minister at the launch of a campaign programme against the abuse and killing of older people

On 16th August 2017 a campaign programme against the abuse and killing of older people due to witchcraft accusations was launched. The Honourable Prime Minister Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane gave a speech at the launch. He said that it is everybody’s responsibility to ensure that older men and women are safe within their communities. He committed that the government of Lesotho will do everything within their power to ensure that older persons live in an environment that is safe and conducive for their needs. He also announced that as a country Lesotho is in the process of signing and ratifying the AU protocol on human rights and the rights of older persons.
